ASTRID TOHA received her MFA (Masters of Fine Arts) in Painting from

RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), her BA (Bachelors of Arts) in

Painting from Northwestern University, and studied for a year in between

at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a lover of classical

painting, she studied photorealism all her life, listened carefully to what

"illusionistic painting" means, and apply the Old Master techniques of

depth perception into our contemporary experience. Growing up in

Indonesia and as an avid traveller, she connects the dots between the

optical and the physical, between matter and the immaterial. Painting

with light, she creates unexpected, metaphysical, phenomenological, and

"magical" perception of surfaces.
